Marc Jacobs Soft Calf Large East/West Hobo

November 21, 2005 by Mallory Road

The Soft Calf Large East/West Hoboicon bag by Marc Jacobs (15″ x 10″ x 4.75″) is full of details, details, details, which I love! I really dislike boring bags—you know the kind, solid front and back, simple sides, zippered top, plain handle and nothing else. I need uniqueness or really beautiful colored fabrics—this bag has both.

Made from leather and available in classic black and a GORGEOUS blue, it has gathered corners that instantly add a chic factor and very cool teardrop-shaped sides that appropriately go well with the blue color choice. It has a top strap that comes down and clicks in a classy press-lock closure. The interior is a yummy suede. I really would like to purchase this bag, but it has that silly price tag of $925. I know—it’s a lot of leather, but why is it I always have to gravitate towards the out-of-my-budget bags?

    Marc Jacobs Smooth Calf Tote

October 24, 2005 by Designer Ella

The Marc Jacobs Smooth Calf Tote is, to me, the best creation since the zipper. Approximately 15″ x 8″ x 7″, including full-length pockets for each the front and rear, completed by a zippered compartment dividing the open interior; this baby’s unbelievably roomy. Two color options, Chocolate and Cream, are both delicious in supple calfskin. Top-stitched bottom corners and subtle brass hardware perfect the understated, yet boldly professional design. This bag is the meaning of sacrifice for luxury’s sake. Thank capitalism’s cogs in motion for its, comparatively “worth it”, pricetag of $1,300. I’ve never seen a bag that incites such spirited gut-deep desires to afford such a grand splurge!

Marc Channels Chanel for His Hot Fall Handbag

October 3, 2005 by Designer Ella

Marc by Marc Jacobs Quilted Velvet Shoulder BagMarc Jacobs channeled Chanel’s feminine flair to hit the “Marc” with this IT-with-sass&class purse. Talk about trends! Velvet quilting & a velvet ribbon winding through the classic chain shoulder strap. It’s slightly un-Marc, and questionably over-Coco, may she rest in peace with this sight. To me, as one who adores this lovely accessory (as I do Chanel), I find it honors her.

The price? It doesn’t make quite that statement at a too affordable $198! Oooooooh, I’m teeemmmmmmpted!

It embodies exactly the personality I like to dress in, but with all the other purchases I’ve recently made, especially on designer bags, this still requires a lot of thought.

Such is the drama of the handbag obsession; whether the price be too high or quite low, we risk blowing our bank accounts, with the latter, it comes with a brimming closet, as well.

Certainly, an argument can be made for such a deal; precious style, semi-precious cost.

Does This Angular Jacobs Need its Selling Point?

September 27, 2005 by Designer Ella

Marc Jacobs teal leather frame bagThis Marc Jacobs leather frame bag is being toted by Net-a-Porter as one of fall’s biggest IT bags. Sounds like a lot of trumped-up talk over a simple–elegant and classy–but still relatively basic bag. The frame satchel-shaped bag is quite lovely, but it isn’t as ornate as I’d expect of something with such coined-praise (aside from the symmetrical horizontal piping). The word hasn’t gotten out, either; I haven’t seen this bag elsewhere. That doesn’t mean, with its hand-braided leather strap and gold hardware, it’s not worth the $1,350 price tag (if any bag is, I mean). Certainly the trendy teal could raise its appeal. And it’s also not to say I don’t like its subtly refined design. Also available in luxe, professional black; it could be a business-woman’s bag at its perfect size.

    Preorder Fall Marc Jacobs

May 26, 2005 by Designer Ella

Marc Jacobs Elise Bag Fall Preview PreorderThe preview for Marc Jacobs’ fall line is out in full at Bergdorf Goodman. There are a lot more handbags to preview or preorder, and many are like this Elise Bag, but not quite as nice. Much of his handbag design is quite sophisticated, but not daring or varying in style. We’ve seen these bags, with their signature push-lock pockets, already from the copycats, which is a shame. I just can’t get too excited, although I rather like this Elise’s side belts.

Missing from the lineup? The furry mink bag, and the nice purple one. I wonder if they sold out!

Preview Handbags of Marc Jacobs Fall 2005

April 29, 2005 by Designer Ella

Marc Jacobs Fall 2005 Preview - Handbags

Bergdorf Goodman has a preview of Marc Jacob’s Fall 2005 line. On the website are 7 bags in a display that ranges from classic to pure outrageous. The preview lasts through May 13th, and you can also put in reservations for orders.

I don’t understand Marc Jacobs. Strictly speaking of his handbags; some are so stately and classic, some are modern and a bit ugly, and then there’s a furry handbag. I don’t care if it is mink, in fact, that makes me dislike it more. Prices range up to nearly $3,000.
