Spring 2007 Preview: Marc Jacobs

October 23, 2006 by Designer Ella

We saw the runway shots, but MarcJacobs.com has Spring 2007’s collections already up! Great, clear photos of his upcoming bags! Unfortunately the website only offers one color for each style, but there are plenty more than were in the fashion show!

First we see the new quilting, colors, and a brand new style for old classics—like the Venetia (1st) and Multipocket (2nd) bags. The front pockets are now signature zippered pockets! Interesting.

Marc Jacobs zippered pocket bags

I really love that Venetia, but by far my favorite bag of the whole collection is the brand new Bowler, which features four front gathered pockets, gathered-leather handles and a push-lock (to nowhere), plus a detachable long chain strap. It’s gorgeous. (And I just want to eat it.)

I’m still looking back a couple seasons to that blue quilted leather Blake, though. Come to eBay … oh why me!

Marc Jacobs Spring 2007 — My Lust Bag

September 25, 2006 by Designer Ella

    Marc Jacobs Purple Croc Satchel

Metallic and multi-shaded and quilted, but more importantly; purple and skinned—this is the bag - from Marc Jacobs - I’m wanting for Spring! I’d “take” it in a saturated green as well!

Fashion Week IT Bags, Marc Jacobs Stam Spring 2007

September 12, 2006 by Designer Ella

I’m way too excited to see the Marc Jacobs show pictures, I cannot contain myself. I also need to split this up into different posts, but I don’t think I can take more than one entry over a little bit of time. I’m crazy, huh?

I have something to show you that will also make you just die! (So there.) Marc Jacobs’ new Stams for Spring 2007!

First we have an extra-large Stam with a push-lock instead of a zippered pocket. The straps are also very different—much less detailed, and I don’t like them nearly as much.

    Marc Jacobs Large Stam White

Here you can plainly see the new quilting style for Spring 2007, and I love it! I really love the classic quilting, but this is unique; it sets the season and MJ name apart, at least for now. It’s really updated and modern, but I don’t want to say forever good-bye to classic quilts, of course!

    Marc Jacobs Metallic Stam Blue

Now here’s the Stam in metallic and some sort of skin! This season will bring a lot of skins to Marc Jacobs, but we’ll see more of that later!

Pursed Lips’ Carnivale: Marc Jacobs Striped Hudson

August 30, 2006 by Mallory Road

Our very own Ella came up with the wonderful questions for this week’s Carnivale, which give us all the opportunity to dream about the IT bags we would own if we only could. Because it’s such an overwhelming decision to think of the IT bag I would own if someone suddenly gave me the money for one, I decided to limit myself to my favorite IT bag designer, Marc Jacobs.
    Marc Jacobs Hudson Tote

So, if I could, I would pick up the Hudson Leather Tote. Why, you might ask—well, not only do I think this is a very stylish-looking tote, but because of the size (13″ l x 11″ h x 6″ d), I could certainly fit everything I’d need in it, which means I could carry it everyday, so I’d get to look at it everyday!

I love the chocolate brown leather with the patent tan trim—I think it looks clean and classy. Oh, by the way, it costs $1,275, so it would definitely be a dream if I owned this one.

    Marc Jacobs Stam Hobo

August 7, 2006 by Designer Ella

    It’s IT Bag Monday!

Marc Jacobs Stam Hobo Black in handPossibly my favorite Stam is the Stam Hobo for its slight greater practicality and sheer difference in shape. I find it new and refreshing, since the Stam has been IT and copied for months. Still not quite to be as IT as the two kiss-lock versions, but great none-the-less. What else appeals to me is the shorter handle seems long enough for shoulder carrying, so there is never an excuse nor naughty desire to use the chain strap for anything other than its obvious use: decoration.

The bag sells in black (shown) or Mouse at eLUXURY or in Chestnut at Neiman Marcus. Each for $1,200 with grained leather at 14″ x 13″ x 5 ½”.

Weekly Fake: iOffer Marc Jacobs Cammie

August 4, 2006 by Designer Ella

First of all, never trust iOffer in the first place. And even though their fakes are worse than eBay’s, we can still learn things.

Here is a brand new gold metallic Marc Jacobs Cammie from Neiman Marcus (which I really hope stays around for a sale).

    Marc Jacobs Cammie

Here is a FAKE Marc Jacobs Quilted Leather Cammie in midnight blue.

    (Quite clear, right?)

    iOffer Fake Marc Jacobs Cammie

Now I don’t have too much information on Cammies, but I know enough to tell these two points:

    • The pockets and quilts are off with the line of the bag. Marc Jacobs has excellent alignment (so too bad the brand doesn’t do signature).
    • The chain strap is too long.

    Now stay away from iOffer!

Weekly Bag for Bargain: Marc Jacobs

August 2, 2006 by Designer Ella

Marc Double Zip Shoulder BagI found this Marc by Marc Jacobs blue leather shoulder bag on Net-a-Porter. It is blue (what I want) and it does have double zippers like some Jacobs, but the zippers aren’t the Jacobs style and there is no quilting or other great Marc-y details.

Is this the poor girl’s Marc Jacobs? Will this do for a Bag for Bargain? Well, it’s still some cash at $298. Is it worth it? It’s not my dream bag, therefore not worth any sum of hundreds, especially $300 + shipping!

Still, if you like this basic bag that’s certainly nice an not ugly a bit, go for it—it’s classic and seemingly quality.

Weekly eBay Fake: Marc Jacobs Venetia

July 28, 2006 by Designer Ella

    Marc Jacobs \"Denim\" Quilted Venetia

I love this style, the Marc Jacobs Quilted Venetia, it is my favorite and my most coveted of Marc Jacobs, although it is too wide for me at 16″, so I will quite contentedly settle for the Blake. I just need to find one. Must be blue!

Anyway, my little tizzying search led me to this bag, and after wanting it, of course I did my research before moving forward.

I learned how to spot a Marc Jacobs fake, and I could tell with the styles at which I looked.

    Fake Marc Jacobs Venetia

Whether you can see it right away or not, this is a bad, or at least easily-seen fake.

Marc by Marc Jacobs “Garbage” Shopper Bag

July 20, 2006 by Mallory Road

    Special!: Ugly, “Garbage” Bag today!

    Marc by Marc Jacobs Bag
Yes, this Veruka Nylon Shopper is a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag and he is one of my favorite designers, but I don’t have a desire to carry this one, and unfortunately at $148, I could actually afford this design.

With a total measurement of 18.5″ l x 13.5″ h x 4″ d, this berry-colored nylon bag features the whimsical “Miss Marc” illustration on the front—a cute drawing, but not something I want to carry around on my purse.

Plus, the shape of the bag seems to lack something for me—many times I like simplicity in design, but this, it seems a bit plain. Oh well, there are many, many other Marc Jacobs handbags that I adore, but alas, they’re much more expensive!
