Top 5 Bags of 2006 #3 - B. Fendi
November 20, 2006 by Designer Ella
This week, Pursed Lips and Kiss Me, Stace are bringing you holiday gift ideas to make your loved ones smile!
Today I have inexpensive bags from luxury brand, Coach. Namely, the demis and pouches. There are great deals on from-the-outlet bags—you can even find demis for under $100. This is perfect for younger sisters, young daughters and cousins who want to stick a toe into the designer handbag world. But be careful that you don’t let them get too deep, too young. And teach the children well how to take care of valuable belongings! Also, try a multi-look bag, like the Holiday Patchwork bag pictured, to match all outfits—and besides, it’s like a little bit of all Coach bags in one, so she’ll be sure to have her fix of bag style for a while!
Definitely many fashionable young girls would squeal getting a first designer bag as a present, and you don’t have to break the bank!
Hold back just a minute though! Keep in mind that you must know the brand yourself to be able to spot fakes, or have a way for someone else to verify authenticity—or forget it. You can still get a pouch at the outlet for a great, great deal or even a Coach boutique, as those usually start under $150 anyway. New pouches can even be carried under the arm, so they’re great handbags.
Search Signature Demis on eBay. / Search Signature Pouches on eBay. / Browse the new collection of pouches and small bags on Coach.com / Or visit your nearest outlet.

Kate Spade Small White Handbag (on Sale!)

It’s a rainy, muggy, gray day here in the midwest and I need a pick-me-up, something to brighten my day. Hmmm, maybe a new purse!? Well, I don’t know if I’ll buy anything, but I am having fun looking at Susannah Hunter’s bags which are featured in the “Fashion Incubator” on Saks.com, which is spotlighting emerging designers.
Hunter’s handbags are designed with gorgeous floral appliqués, which are very tastefully done, and made from beautiful-colored leathers. Each piece is an individual handmade work of art, meaning the floral designs will vary slightly from bag to bag, which makes each piece more collectible.
I absolutely love the Rose Coin Purse (5″ l x 4.5″ h x 1″ d)—it’s simple and sweet and will never go out of style. Prices range from $255 for the Rose Coin Purse to $2,275 for the Daisy Garden Travel Bag.

A Little Dooney “Hearts” is Just Enough

I’ll admit the size of the Collegiate Kilt Bag ($695) by Michael Kors (7″ l x 7″ h x 3″ d) is what initially perked my interest. If it were larger, I might complain that I didn’t like the goldtone studs and hardware, especially given I tend to be a silver girl, but instead I think the petite size makes the details adorable!
It would be so much fun to carry and the kiltie detail on front is a great way to incorporate the Celtic trend I’ve seen in a couple fall magazine layouts. So, if you don’t fashion yourself as a plaid-wearing girl, show off your Scottish-Irish roots with this bag instead, or if you’re not of Scottish or Irish descent, buy it anyway and pretend you are!

One of the trademarks of Elliott Lucca handbags is their beautiful detailed use of leathers—their new Amelie handbags are no exception. In this line, gorgeous large-grain leather is quilted and accented with jeweled rivets, which I think somewhat have the look of sophisticated polka dots from a distance.
Currently, the Amelie Dr. Satchel and the Amelie Flap Clutch are available on their web site. I love the clutch! Available in black, chocolate, curry or stone, it measures 7.5″ l x 4″ h x 1″ d, has a classy turnlock closure and a multitude of compartments inside.
But, my favorite thing, well, besides how it looks, about the clutch is its price—only $88! The satchel is only $168! That’s another one of Elliott Lucca’s trademarks—they make nice-looking purses for reasonable prices, which is something everyone can be happy about!

With a bit of a rugged vintage look, the Sandhurst Wristlet by Banana Republic is calling my name as a possible bag for fall. It has a simple, classic silhouette, it’s made from creamy 100% Italian leather and it measures 7.5″ l x 4.5″ h x 1″ d. The focal point of the design is the brass buckle, which is the perfect accent to the leather.
The strap, which has a 6-inch drop, is adjustable, allowing you to carry the bag more like a traditional purse or as a wristlet.
When you don’t need to carry a lot of necessities, this would be a great grab-and-run bag, perfect for running errands on the weekends and for $78, it’s a nice break on the budget!

Banana Republic’s New Handbag Collections

A few months ago, I spotted a magazine spread featuring instructions to make handbags from vintage silk scarves and bangle bracelets. I liked the concept of using chic scarves and bangles, but didn’t know how much I would actually like the bag once it was made. It didn’t seem like it would be able to hold much weight.
This Silk Mini Bag by J. Crew reminds me of those bags, but it looks sturdier, and it’s only $68. Made from Italian tie-silk and trimmed with Italian pebbled leather, it has a chain/leather handle, front flap with a magnetic closure and an interior zip pocket. Plus, the more I look at this, the more I like it—it would look so cute on the weekends with jeans.
