Hermès Kelly Shearling Muff

March 8, 2007 by Designer Ella

Hermes Kelly Muff

I absolutely adore this Kelly-styled shearling-lined leather muff that IMHO stole the show at Hermès. The thing is I’m not sure if it’s actually a bag! It doesn’t appear to be able to fit much in it besides hands. It is definitely styled after the classic Kelly bag, though, so if it’s not a bag, I say it’s just as good—or better? One thing’s certain, this is the most stylin’ muff ever!

Heard of Goyard? Many Already Love Them.

January 30, 2007 by Designer Ella

Goyard LogoGoyard might be unknown to most, and a luggage maker styled after Vuitton, after first inspection - but the company has a long history and a great fan base in today’s time.

It’s true, the brand makes trunks, travel cases, and bags for men and women all in a logoed coated canvas trimmed in leather (just like LV). The logo appears to be a subtle Y (why Y?), nothing that will scream label-addict, yet the owner will get all the quality.

Goyard bagOne may argue that the actual handbags by this traditional company, opposed to trunks and travel pieces, are shape-and-style-less - while consumers still pay high for craftsmanship and self-importance by the established classics maker. On the other hand, their devoted patrons don’t complain a bit - they follow the brand like any designer. This house (ou maison!), which even inspires fakes - for the record, must be doing something right.

Take the Jeanne, which I happen to like for its idea, being inspired by the hat box. (Don’t you adore hat boxes?) Goyard’s designs are simple and functional. Perhaps bags for the non-bag-ladies. Are they for you?

Top 5 Ugliest Bags #1! - Louis Vuitton

December 24, 2006 by Designer Ella

Louis Vuitton Monogram Mink Bum BagThe #1 ugly bag in our Top 5 Ugly Bags list is … Louis Vuitton Monogram Mink “Bum” Bag.

It’s not just ugly for bright colored monogram on the wrong “canvas”, it’s not just ugly being “immoral” for using fur, but no, it’s both: it’s also ugly for defacing beautiful mink with large, colorful monogram.

I thought fur was to be appreciated as beautiful and natural from the animal? I mean this is coming from an anti-fur person, but I thought that fur-lovers liked the look of real animal fur (and feel, but it’s “just a bag”).

I wish this were fake fur, but it wouldn’t be Vuitton, it wouldn’t be luxury, and then the other half of fashionistas would think it were ugly. Le sigh!

Besides, it’s also ugly because one way to wear it is around the waist - agh!

    Runway Bags: Luella

February 8, 2006 by Designer Ella

Luella on the Fashion Week runway, a preview of Fall 2006, here are the best views of the most notable bags (view all the detail shots):

Designer Luella Bartley went a little crazy with out there bags, and a little crazy for more charms (taking hint from her own downscale Target accessories?). It seems she also is playing with different animal skins and fur. Above is a pink ostrich satchel and an orange quilted satchel with shearling trim.

A lot of the bags on the runway had these interesting, long straps with bows. But the metal handle on the ostrich bag is the truly interesting one; is it a large safety pin? Most of the bags, including one with sapphire beads and an ocelot purse (whether print, hair-calf or real) were impractical. Another thing I noticed is that they all seem to be satchel-shaped, which is interesting, or maybe I just see satchels wherever I look.

Amid the horrid style (and did I mention charms?), there was a peak that there is at least one more baby Giselle planned.

Preview Handbags of Marc Jacobs Fall 2005

April 29, 2005 by Designer Ella

Marc Jacobs Fall 2005 Preview - Handbags

Bergdorf Goodman has a preview of Marc Jacob’s Fall 2005 line. On the website are 7 bags in a display that ranges from classic to pure outrageous. The preview lasts through May 13th, and you can also put in reservations for orders.

I don’t understand Marc Jacobs. Strictly speaking of his handbags; some are so stately and classic, some are modern and a bit ugly, and then there’s a furry handbag. I don’t care if it is mink, in fact, that makes me dislike it more. Prices range up to nearly $3,000.
