Top 5 Ugliest Bags #1! - Louis Vuitton

December 24, 2006 by Designer Ella

Louis Vuitton Monogram Mink Bum BagThe #1 ugly bag in our Top 5 Ugly Bags list is … Louis Vuitton Monogram Mink “Bum” Bag.

It’s not just ugly for bright colored monogram on the wrong “canvas”, it’s not just ugly being “immoral” for using fur, but no, it’s both: it’s also ugly for defacing beautiful mink with large, colorful monogram.

I thought fur was to be appreciated as beautiful and natural from the animal? I mean this is coming from an anti-fur person, but I thought that fur-lovers liked the look of real animal fur (and feel, but it’s “just a bag”).

I wish this were fake fur, but it wouldn’t be Vuitton, it wouldn’t be luxury, and then the other half of fashionistas would think it were ugly. Le sigh!

Besides, it’s also ugly because one way to wear it is around the waist - agh!

    Top 5 Ugliest Bags #2

December 23, 2006 by Designer Ella

Dooney & Bourke Bumble Bee Tassel Zip TopNo surprise here, on the list of Top Ugly Bags is the new Dooney & Bourke: #3 Dooney & Bourke Bumble Bee bag.

The complete collection features bags with overly cartoonish bee drawings carrying “Ds” (the letters) but no “Bs”, for the bees are the “Bs” - get it? It’s a form of signature, then?

It’s busy, it’s corny and it’d be cute for the too young to afford $185.

    Top 5 Ugliest Bags #3

December 22, 2006 by Designer Ella

Red Romper BagThe top 3 ugliest bag of the year was one originally blogged about by our Mallory Road: Anthropologie “Romper” Hobo.

Looking like a little kid’s bag, or actually, just a little kid’s jumper (that’s American for overalls dress, you Brits), this is one oddity of a bag. Why was it made, who would buy it? I just know it’s no longer available … for some reason. Oh, and one more thing; it “sold” at $598.

    Uummmm? What?

See how it could get any uglier tomorrow and Sunday—Christmas Eve!

    Top 5 Ugliest Bags #4

December 20, 2006 by Designer Ella

Kathy Van Zeeland Cat Walk Satchel

Moving on with the holiday spirits of bags gone ugly. Our number 4 ugliest bag is the new Kathy Van Zeeland Catwalk Satchel. Kathy Van Zeeland always makes over-embellished bags, overdone so much that they’re instantly recognizable as by the brand. This particular bag has charms, studs; everything - all on a cheesy leopard-print body. It’s just ug-lay.

And now … The Top 5 Ugliest Bags!

December 19, 2006 by Designer Ella

Yes, on this third week of our New Year countdown, this last week before Christmas, we bring you some holiday amusement with … The Top 5 Ugliest Bags!

And our 5th choice was tough, there were three current Coach contenders. Two had fringe, but we only have room for five on each countdown.

So our number 5 is the Coach Soho Signature Stitched Flap, and I’ll tell you why.

Coach stitched flapIt’s not just because of the embellishments, oh no. About half the bags in Coach’s stitch line are amazing and beautiful, it’s about the embellishments paired with other over-the-top elements.

First, the color, this isn’t such a detraction, but the bland color adds no sense of gorgeousness to this bag. Still we must consider more mixed with this. Second, the Signature (and being large at that). I love Signature of course, but all the bags in this line that are signature are just way too busy. The bags that are leather, on the other hand, are striking especially because of bold colors. Finally, I hate that awkward shape of this style of flap bag. The frame makes the whole bag look weird.

Add all that up and we get an ugly bag … a bag just ugly enough to beat out bags with long fringe!!!

Kate Moss with Chanel’s Garbage Bag

November 29, 2006 by Designer Ella

    *Via* Style Bytes:

Kate Moss has been seen out and about with that famous Chanel garbage bag I posted in September.

    Kate Moss Chanel

This hanging sack does not look chic on her.

Hmm, I wonder if someone could be rich enough to use this as a reusable trash bag holder? That might be chic, insane, but stylish.

This Chanel actually LOOKS like a “Garbage Bag”

October 16, 2006 by Designer Ella

For your consideration into our “Garbage Bag” feature, this Chanel hobo. It sort of resembles a large sack in which to stuff trash, n’est pas? Only just a little bit prettier and more colorful.

I apologize about the sheer size of this photo—to match!

    Elle Accessories Chanel BIG Hobo

You put 4′11″ moi next to it, and I’m afraid we get that “big, big, big, big” TV ad. It’s huge! Not only could I carry a lot of junk in it, I could tote my whole body around.

At least it has a logo.

Spring 2007 Garbage Bags: Oscar de La Renta

October 3, 2006 by Designer Ella

I remember when I was in High School, I thought I was so cool for one of the backpacks I used. I recently cringed remembering it. It was clear, see-through—oh yes, oh no! I was proud that I had nothing to hide in that bag (where were my monthly “friend” items?) like other “bad” kids. Now I’m embarrassed to have carried something so tacky. Well, the bag’s novelty wore off and I didn’t sport it long.

But you know there are handbags today with the same look—anything from $4 think-nothing-of-ems to Louis Vuitton Monogram. And now, alas, the completely clear plastic is high fashion via … …

Yes, it’s a “Garbage Bag” from the preview of Spring 2007 at New York Fashion Week (photos thanks to Coutorture). The winning designer is … Oscar de la Renta (??!!!), with bags so far from what we know of the house (usually ladylike, sophisticated, beautiful).

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2007 clear tote bag

What good can I say? “Couture” elements were added to these bags, like that tag? No, not so good, IMHO. There’s a bow? Also, not so much. How about that I like the presentation with belongings in them. Well, that’s about it.

Please, what will the pricetag be on this plastic work of ugly?

    Anthropologie Red “Garbage” Bag

September 7, 2006 by Mallory Road

    Anthropologie Red Leather Hobo
So, tell me, am I the only one who really doesn’t like the shape of this bag?

Anthropologie carries some adorable and nice-looking bags, in fact I wrote about one yesterday, but this Red Romper Hobo just doesn’t cut it for me.

If I spend $598 on a bag, I sure do not want it to resemble a child-size romper. Plus it looks quite large, and at 17″ l x 16″ h x 10″ d, it is. According to Anthropologie’s web site, it can even double its length by unsnapping and unfolding.

Regardless of size, if a bag comes in this shape, I’ll pass on it.

    Jessica McClintock Beaded “Garbage” Bag

August 10, 2006 by Mallory Road

    Jessica McClintock Bag
It’s Thursday, which means it’s “Garbage Bag” day.

Sometimes, too much is well, too much, which is the case with this Bead Fringe Frame Bag from Jessica McClintock. Beaded fringe, beaded flower, large frame—we’ve probably all seen this type of bag everywhere. People carry them to proms, weddings, dances, etc., but I have to say I’ve never wanted one. They always seem so overdone to me.

I prefer my evening bags a bit more classic, simple and elegant.
