Marc Jacobs and the Amazing Technicolor Python Stams

April 12, 2007 by Designer Ella

It looks like Marc Jacobs took a trip to Vegas when inspired by new Spring 2007 Python Patchwork Stams, and unfortunately what happened in Marc’s imagination there, did not stay in Vegas. No the Python Patchwork Stam is now available for purchase via Saks Fifth Avenue (in blue, the tamest colour).

Marc Jacobs Python Stam - Blue

I should have warned you, this post’s images are not for the faint of heart. The bags themselves are not for the faint of loyal Marc Jacobs heart, either—for this burst of tie-dyed snake skin costs $4,000.

More colours below, if you dare click on what look more like digital art images than photographs of real objects.

Bagosphere Buzz - I like your bags!

March 26, 2007 by Designer Ella

Iiiii’m siiiiick! I come home from vacation for this to set in on me. I never get sick, and this is sick like I’ve never been (not the worst though, but certainly different). What a good day to start this feature up again, because I’m not sure how much original brain power I have in me. Oiiii.

Get your own bagPictured is the “Get Your Own Bag” message canvas tote. It’s simple, filled with attitude and I also see loads of irony in it. A shapeless cartooned tote bag conveying envy and pride over a bag—what bag?—even the mini bag pictured is not “cute”. I believe it must be made with rightful intention, making fun of bag lovers. Still, it’s notable. Find purchase info (for the uncensored version too) at The Purse Blog.

Introduce yourselves to Eco-Bag, an online shop for bags designed by indies that are all recycled materials. The once soda bottle, once seat belt buckle, and once … boat sail? Yep, all hand made and all environmentally friendly. Shop via In My Bag.

Love that luxury trash bag style of the Coco Cabas, but for a well, still more expensive than trash pricetag? The Chapman Large Slouch Hobo by Charles David is a brandy copycat of Chanel’s bag. For less the money, but it’s not like you like the Chanel aside from its logo anyway! Via Señora Cartera (Mrs. Handbag).

Model Lily Cole designed a line of bags for Monsoon Accessories, EBelle5 featured a rainbow striped small purse.

Ooh, an umbrella case! What a nice change of pace. In cute rainbowed stars, the umbrella with case from Top Shop costs 12 pounds, and is only available in stores in the UK. Boo hoo, this sick girl is crying! Via The Bag Lady.

And finally, this doesn’t have to do with bags, but when I saw this billboard last week, I thought it would be perfect about for Counterfeit Chic to write. It’s Coke’s new billboards for Coca Cola Zero, like, “tastes so much like Coke, we should sue ourselves”. Funny?

Visit these great blogs, and we’ll see you around.

The View Disses Louis Vuitton’s Tribute Bag

March 15, 2007 by Designer Ella

Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork BagThe girls on The View today dissed Louis Vuitton’s Tribute Patchwork bag, and rightly so. But then Rosie O’Donnell said she would “craft” an equal bag at home for $10. The girls even said they would give out the “knockoffs” to the audience. What do you think about this?

I’m sorry, but there is genuine fur on the bag, monogram, and logoed hardware - I don’t think Ro can come close.

Sports Ball Bags - Actual Purses Shaped like Balls

March 4, 2007 by Designer Ella

Soccer ball bagMan that sounds a bit dirty. Appealing to the more tomboyish girls, once again, are these fairly extreme sports-themed handbags from Red24Bags.com. There are football purses (talk about pigskin leather), soccer ball bags (which I sort of find cute) and then the basketball bags (hey those could really cash in on the oversized handbag trend).

Novelty bags suitable for an avid collector or handbags to bring to games, they’re detailed but overpriced near $200.

And hey, where’s the baseball mini purse - America’s favorite victory party clutch?!

    Coach’s Colorful New Patchwork Satchel

February 28, 2007 by Designer Ella

Coach Hamptons Weekend Patchwork SatchelI appreciate the effort and exciting anticipation behind old favorite Coach when they put out something different, but the mix of high saturated colours in their new Hamptons Weekend Patchwork makes me think it was made for clowns, not fashionistas—maybe not even the typical teenage girl!

Featuring far too much going on with all those dark, spotlight-steal-attempting, shades the new Hamptons Weekend Satchel shape is at least something nice. I love that Coach keeps introducing new satchels, my favorite style by far. Another new detail is the hang tags with circular “splotches” of a contrasting colour - although I’m not sure why that’s necessary.

It’s your typical new Spring’s approaching attempt at cheer from Coach, but more. They simply went too far.

The Hamptons Weekend Satchel is sized 13″ x 7″ x 7″ and won’t be setting me back $288.

Kgadi Shoots! Doesn’t Score with NBA Handbags

February 23, 2007 by Designer Ella

Kgadi NBA Basketball BagThere is a new “independent designer” out there, but really, the company’s neither. Kgadi (pronounced “hattie”) makes simple drawstring bags with NBA (that’s basketball, ladies) logos on them. Uh wha? Handbags are for women, stylish women—most of them. This is for men (but not) or seriously tom-women or well, women who don’t care.

I guess this is one way for fangirls to “sport” logos, if not into designer? Nah, not really though, because the people who might be attracted to such things will not pay (and shouldn’t) the pricepoint of $110.

    Nope, not hearing a swoosh

Louis Vuitton Vomit - Really Expensive Vomit

February 15, 2007 by Designer Ella

    Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag

That. My dear friends is the new Limited Edition Louis Vuitton tote. Made up of actual pieces of bags from current styles and maybe a few classic IT LVs, this Tribute Patchwork shoulder bag is available this month. Another picture to follow.

    Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag

Its two sides feature different iconic pieces from yesterday and today, complete with straps, buckles, flaps, locks, hooks and plaques - even fur. Each bag its made up of is practically complete. (Oh, this is nearly enough to make me vomit as well.)

Loved by crazed fans, hated by most, the worst part - possibly - is its price: $42,000.

I’d rather have just three or so of the styles, plus other Vuittons for just a few thousand, and save the rest. Well, save most of the rest … some will be for Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Balenciaga … ooh, and to pay off my AMEX.

Runway Letdown: What’s Up with Marc Jacobs’ Bags?

February 7, 2007 by Designer Ella

I suppose all Marc Jacobs’ bags that we love, he thinks we’ve seen too much of. For Fall 2007, he’s showing us all new styles, well only 2 of them. One is an old-fashioned (imho) flap shoulder bag with luxe skins, the other is actually a really cool oversized clutch (also with skins [ostrich pictured], also with flap).

Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 preview bag Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 preview bag

The first is so blah - Marcy, don’t expect that to go IT. Public/mag eds, don’t let that go IT!

But that clutch is pretty neat. I imagine it’s perfect to hold papers in the business world, and will be tucked inside a Birkin business bag! Ah, the dream.

A handbag though? Well, I think it’d be too clumsy to carry around. Not the dream.

Show Us Your Unmentionables! What’s in Your Clear Bag? Pursed Lips’ First Ever Contest

January 20, 2007 by Designer Ella

From embarrassing and ugly in the 90s to faux useful and patriotic for 2007, the see-through bag is now being reported as “trendy” and even “the next big thing.”

    Oh gah!

The myth being perpetrated by dim-witted fashion journalists that clear PVC designer handbags hold the answer to the 21st century fashionista’s travel dilemmas is insane! The see-through baggies that hold liquids for security checkpoints are required to be separate from the rest of one’s purse belongings and not be sized to hold more than 1 quart. Duh! Buying one of these clear bags at ridiculous prices for that reason is misguided, and I hope no one falls for it.

Still, the possibility of these bags actually having some style to them has not been decided as completely imbecilic yet. Time and plummeting sale pricetags will tell.

Here are some photos of clear designer bags, via IguanaFashions, which is holding a contest to find the coolest indie version of the new style. (Also see our original entry: Spring 2007 Garbage Bags: Oscar de la Renta)

    Clear designer bags

Having this topic and blog entry sitting on my desktop awaiting me to post about finally led me to a genius idea …Our own contest - Pursed Lips .net’s first contest ever, in fact.

    A) You send in a photo or a few of a clear bag with your actual personal necessities inside - what you carry around daily in your bag. We post it here and and then - you show you’re really not embarrassed. While the contest continues you post the link to your special page here in as many places as you can (forum signatures, Flickr*, Squidoo Lenses, blogs, blogrolls, e-mail signatures, MySpace, etc.) The person who shows the highest level of brevity and who has the coolest stuff in her bag will be deemed the winner - and she gets a collection of little goodies to go in her daily purse - such as makeup bags, even a wallet - by brands and luxe brands alike!

You can cheat a little taking the photos, sneak pics at a department store, you may even get away with really fantastic Photoshop skills, as a last resort. We understand it may be hard to even want to own one of these bags.

    B) The 2nd option to entering is to submit photos of your favorite purse (one you think actually deserves to be “the next big bag”) and what’s inside, and then link to the contest entries’ main page in as many fashions as above, while also blogging, or in some other way posting or publishing an article with your opinions on clear bags. The other part of this contest is to find out what people think of the trend! Plus, by sending us a photo of your own IT bag, you’ll help us know which bags are actually the hottest for 2007!
Then, all that linking will hopefully pay off for you, because our visitors will help to vote on a winner! So essentially when you link to your own page here, ask for a vote! But that’s not all, the links also act as votes for you, as well!
