I know bags that are white, off-white, cream or ivory aren’t always deemed as very practical, but I still find myself being drawn to them. I actually don’t own a white bag, but that’s probably because all the white bags I like tend to be pretty expensive. That’s not a shocker. But, just because I don’t own one doesn’t stop me from posting about the ones that I admire here.

Once again, I’ve stumbled upon a bag that’s light colored that I really like—the Baca Bag. And once again, it’s expensive—$675, to be exact. It’s made from cream-colored leather, which I think has such a soft look to it, perfect for spring and the leather is accented with gold hardware. This purse also has fun double handles that run along the sides and around the bottom.

That Leather Smell

Sometimes, you look at a purse and you immediately know its purpose. When I spotted this Magazine Tote by Rafé New York, it pleaded with me to buy it and carry it to work. I really do need a new purse for work, especially in this combo of Italian linen and pretty peach textured Italian leather trim.
At 17.5″ l x 15″ h x 4″ d, it’s plenty large enough to carry everything I need, even a magazine or two, which is a plus because I always love having a magazine with me—it’s appropriately named, isn’t it? It has two convenient front pockets, allowing you easy access to things you may need in a hurry, like your keys. At a price that’s out of my range ($528.95), it’s available in three different colors (flax, olive and natural) and they all give a different look—something for everyone.

Rafē Yolanda Clutch (on Sale!)

Have you ever bought a great purse for a party, only to struggle with it the entire evening either falling off your shoulder or having to continuously hold it in one hand? Designer Mary Rambin created the C.L.I.C.K. bag to solve your problem. It’s named after the essentials that every girl needs close by: Cell phone, Lip gloss, Identification, Cash and Keys.
Constructed with a unique strap design, the purse slides onto your wrist and actually stays there while you party the night away. Made from leather, these bags are a fun alternative to the regular clutches I might pick for a party and they come in several colors. I particularly like the metallics.

Memorial Weekend Party
March 12, 2006 by Designer Ella
When I’m feeling down - as I have from time to time, lately - it’s nice to think about a great basic handbag that’s perfect to fall back on.
I was eyeing this Liz Claiborne Leather pocket style bag for months, until I saw its perfect incarnation: The croc-embossed satchel . Back in January, I already knew croc was coming back for Spring and I’d suggest buying the metallic, for an extra dash of trendiness, without overboarding on style. The duo-tone is not only shiny, but a great mix of brown and black. So versatile to match anything, it even has antique metal hardware that is a mix between silver and golden.
The practical bag with extra oomph, it even has two outside pockets and spacious inner compartments, with pockets galore!!
Plus, it’s not expensive, especially for how soft and luxe this genuine leather is. I love feeling it against my bare arm, it will be bliss come warm weather. Don’t wait too long, as it’s almost sold out of most stores, but there are always sales popping up. Right now, it’s going for $108 at eBags.com . Destined to last, it’s worth it.

The end of last Summer, I realized a silly “need” for an outrageously “Summer” bag. What other material than straw? Sure, bright colors and croc leather are in for Spring, but with the seasons changing before we know it, don’t you want to skip ahead on occasions? I’ll be in Florida for my Spring Break (in one week), and I think my new Fossil Straw Satchel will be my carry-on as well as my handbag for some of the trip.
This Cierra Ring Satchel by Fossil is very similar to the one I bought from Filene’s. They’re both so, so cute. But this one has wooden handles and gathers with ties. The styles are well-designed and look expensive, but they’re not that much money ($78 on Fossil.com - and mine was $68 - also look out for sales).
They have different, cute styles of straw handbags, and varieties of leathers, so check Fossil.com and your local department stores for different versions.

J. Crew Straw Mini Purse

For anyone searching for a perfect warm-weather handbag, cast your eyes upon the Bottega Veneta Top Handle purse, available for a mere $780. Hah, once again out of my price range! Made from multicolor cotton canvas, it measures 10.75″ l x 6.5″ h x 3.5″ d. It features double leather handles that are even adjustable—a fantastic feature! I love when handles are adjustable, not only because each of us are different sizes and want different drop lengths, but they also allow me to adjust the handle length for those days when I might want it a little longer or shorter.
The colors and fabric remind me of a warm, sunny summer day along the beach, but the pop of colors would be a refreshing sight admist the cloudy, dreary days of late winter/early spring. I also think the piping trim provides a great finish to this design.

Finally, a purse I can actually afford and is on trend with the current crop of purses using natural materials! The Straw Mini Purse by J. Crew ($88) measures 9.75″ l x 5.75″ h and comes in two different color versions. One features straw with brown leather and the other is straw with pink leather—I could have a hard time deciding between these two. I love the pink, but think the brown is a great neutral purse. Choices, choices, choices! The focal point of the purse is the brass O-ring tab closure, which at first, I didn’t know if I liked that much, but it continues to grow on me each time I look at.

Shopbop.com is one of my favorite web sites to visit and while I was looking at the Goldenbleu Jordan Travel Bag, I also stumbled upon the Luba J Porcupine Bag. Measuring 14″ l x 5″ h x 11″ d and selling for $828, it’s a purse bursting with unique details, including metal studs that poke out along the sides and bottom, much like a porcupine’s quills, hence the name. It is also conveniently designed with two separate compartments, each with its own croc-embossed top flap. I like the look of the braided handle, but am a bit curious as to how comfortable it feels on the shoulder. Of course, if someone wants to send me a sample purse to try, I’m more than willing!

I’m going on vacation at the end of the month and this Jordan Small Travel Bag would be perfect to take with me—unfortunately at $656, it won’t be making the trip, but I can still admire it from afar. Measuring 17″ l x 11.5″ h, it incorporates lots of details in the leather, including ruching and a fun braided zipper pull.
It’s available in chocolate, navy or camel—I particularly like it in navy. I find that once March arrives, I start to choose purses in blue that I would usually pick in black or brown.
